Wise words from Rocky Balboa

Yeah yeah, I know it’s just a movie, and Rocky isn’t actually a real person, but I still love that guy 👊

I love all of the Rocky movies.

They are the ultimate underdog story.

If you have not seen them, make sure you add them to your watch list, especially if you love training!

In the first movie, Rocky is a middle-aged broke boxer that hasn’t achieved much. He isn’t even a particularly good boxer, but when he gets an opportunity to fight the world heavyweight champion, he shows the world that tenacity and heart will beat raw talent.

Movies that inspire people to overcome adversity are great, in my opinion, and let’s face it. We could all do with some of that inspiration right now.

I train and work in my cabin, and I have a poster on the wall that has words from one of the Rocky movies. There is a scene where Rocky is talking to his son. His son is upset that his dad is going to fight again and worried that Rocky will make a fool of himself and make a fool of his son.

He replies to his son with these words.

Rocky Balboa Speech

“The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows.

It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it.

You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life.

But it ain’t how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward.

How much you can take and keep moving forward.

That’s how winning is done.

Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth.

But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you are because of him, or her, or anybody.

Cowards do that, and that ain’t you.

You’re better than that!”

~Rocky Balboa

Whatever your struggle right now, whatever pain you are feeling, just keep going and keep fighting 👊
